Monday 16/3/2015 Day 69 Art Gallery and Cantonese Food on Day 2 in Hong Kong

With the time difference between Hong Kong and home,  the MUFC v Spurs match came on our cabin telly at midnight and finished with a 3-0 win (thank goodness) at 2 a.m. This meant that our night’s sleep was delayed and therefore wasn’t quite as long as it could have been. We were in no rush to get up and go out today.

We did manage to surface and get a hearty breakfast around 9 a.m but left today’s disembarkation until nearer 11.  The ship is so close to the cultural centre, the space centre and the art gallery that it was really quick to get there.  We decided to spend time in the art gallery.  A massive new building in 4 stories, once we were inside we realised we didn’t have too many HK$ so we asked “how much?” just to make sure we wouldn’t run out. Happily we were offered day tickets for about 50 pence each!  There were 5 different exhibitions, Tong King-sum’s “Tempting Touch” (wooden sculptures), Leung Mee Ping and Chow Chun Fai, Co Lab and SLOW “All Are Guests Homecoming” (paintings, drawings, short films, photographs and poetry), Paintings by Wu Guanzhong (land and sea scapes) Bamboo Carvings (sorry I haven’t got this artists name) and “The Four Gentlemen” – Flower paintings and ink drawings by various artists.

I have a programme and took a few pics, so when I get home I can elaborate.

After this we sampled a traditional street café for one ample bowl of wonton soup and one chicken and rice soup, before investigating indoor markets, art materials and hardware stores, just for the experience.

By 4 we were back on board, taking tea and oatmeal cookies before getting ready to have a quick Skype chat courtesy of free wi-fi in “Harbour City” before school (8a.m. in Manchester).  By 5 I was in the spa first stretching then relaxing in the hot water. And then it was dinner, for me blue cheese terrine, salmon with veg, a kiwi and mango Pavlova. For Khachik it was Potato and Leak Soup, Steak, mushrooms, tomatoes and chips, Fruit Salad and Ice Cream.  Oh my word, food, food and more food.  Two lightweights on the night life scene – we are both back in the cabin and ready to have an early night and catch up on the sleep we missed whilst being entertained by MU. Back tomorrow – our sea day to Sanya xx
